About the font
Vollkorn originated as my first attempt at type design. I published the Regular in 2005 under a Creative Commons license. Two years later, the counter finally didn't crash, and it was downloaded thousands of times and used online and in print. It is meant to be a quiet, modest, and well-working text font for everyday use. Unlike examples in book faces from the Renaissance to today, it has dark and meaty serifs, along with a bouncy and healthy appearance. It can be used as body text as well as for headings or titles. 'Vollkorn' (pronounced 'Follkorn') translates from German as 'coarse flour', which refers to an old term 'Brotschrift'. It denoted small typefaces for everyday use in manual typesetting.
